Precious Moments in Zoos and Aquariums

September 2008 - Beebe has returned from the Bronx Zoo

Many zoo visitors may not recognize the actual population or identification of animals in their enclosure, as long as they can find something amusing. During this summer, one of the female sea lions at Prospect Park Zoo named "Beebe" has made a quick visit to the Bronx Zoo. The theory behind the move was that Kiani is proven a successful father when his first offspring Katy was born on July 14 to mother Cleo. It is a good opportunity to introduce new females to the Bronx pool during sea lions' breeding season in hoping that there will be more sea lion pups born next summer. Clarice, another female from the Central Park Zoo, has also been transferred to the Bronx Zoo and is now staying there with Kiani, Cleo, Indy, and pup Katie. While Beebe suddenly moves back to Prospect Park Zoo in early September, the reasons to make such decision remain unknown.
